Red Tail Fenders are primarily designed for fixed gear and coaster brake setups with an available rear brake hole - BUT - depending on the measurements of your brakes, it might be possible to provide hardware for your traditional hand brake setup. In a nutshell, if the space between your brake calipers is wider than 1.4" when they're closed, this might be your lucky day.
Follow these instructions to get this measurement for your bike and figure out if a Red Tail Fender will work for you.
Brake calipers are metal arms that, when equipped with brake pads, come together to stop your wheel in its tracks when you squeeze your hand brake levers.
-You're going to need a friend to squeeze the hand brakes as though they were stopping the bike. While they're doing this, use a measuring tape to measure the distance between the calipers (each "arm" is called a caliper).
-Write down this measurement so you don't forget it and have to start again.
-The next measurement you need is the distance between your tire and the bolt where the calipers meet. Again, use a tape measure and sort it out.
Chances are that if the clearance between the calipers is larger than 1.4", we're in business. The second measurement is more of a precaution since some fancy pants bikes have hardly any space here, but most have enough to fit a Red Tail Fender. It would be wise to have at least an inch of clearance here.
Remember: measurements are only necessary for bikes with back brakes. When ordering a fender for a bike with rear brake calipers, please let me know in your message to seller so I can flip the hardware.
If your fender is properly installed on your bike with a rear brake, it should look something like this:
